Updated May 3, 2023: 2Ring Gadgets for Cisco Finesse version 6.2 is now compatible with Manifest V3 and doesn’t necessitate an upgrade. Any older versions, starting with 6.1.1, are not compatible and require an upgrade.

Sacramento, CA and Bratislava, Slovakia – This is vital information concerning the need to for some of our customers to move forward with an upgrade of 2Ring Gadgets for Cisco Finesse.

Why is there a Need to Upgrade Now? 

A shift is happening in the Google Chrome browser extension ecosystem, whose architecture is moving from Manifest V2 definition to V3. Google’s Manifest V3 improves security, privacy, and performance, necessitating the compliance of browser extensions. 2Ring Gadgets for Cisco Finesse versions 6.1.x and earlier complied with the Manifest V2 standard, which Google will not support after June 2024. Thus, without upgrading to our latest editions, versions 7.x and upcoming 8.x, you will not be able to use the Gadgets efficiently due to new V3 standards. 

Is your 2Ring Deployment Impacted?

This change impacts all customers that use 2Ring Browser Extension for Google Chrome and who are on versions of Gadgets older than 6.2.

If your agents and supervisors do not use Cisco Finesse in Chrome (or MS Edge), and do not use 2Ring Browser Extension, then there will be no immediate impact on your agents and supervisors.

However, as noted below, we strongly recommend that your organization considers an upgrade to the current version of 2Ring Gadgets for Cisco Finesse.

Benefits of Moving to latest version of 2Ring Gadgets

As well as complying with the new web standard, versions 7.x and 8.x come with new features and improvements, including:

  • All native parts of the solution run on Linux. Windows nodes are no longer needed for 2Ring Gadgets for Cisco Finesse (note: 2Ring Dashboards & Wallboards still need a VM with Windows Server). This also means that this release comes with a brand new deployment app, enhanced High Availability (HA) handling, and more efficient performance management.
    • Dashboards & Wallboards Integration rewritten as a microservice
    • SMTP integration rewritten as a microservice
    • ServicesConfig rewritten as a microservice
    • Static resources are served from an nginx server microservice
    • MS Teams integration uses Credential Store microservice
    • RabbitMQ replaced with an ultrathin fan out service
    • Kubernetes 1.27 support
    • Skilling Scheduling has been optimized to use less resources.
  • Call Picking (UCCX only) enables fully colored tabs and rows in the list of queued – parked calls:
  • Dialog Gadget
    • Contacts app can have multiple columns configured in the list, enabling a lot of more information to be displayed/listed in the initial list of search results – very helpful when the same phone number happens to be associated with multiple accounts (through multiple CRM/Service Desk systems):

  • Enhanced Security – meet improved web threats protection thanks to new features of Manifest V3 compatibility. 
  • Performance – experience faster, smoother gadget interactions through optimized background processing and resources management. 
  • Not Chained to a Single CRM System
  • Create a truly unified workspace for agents as well as for supervisors by integrating Cisco® Contact Center with multiple business applications (e.g. Salesforce®, SAP®, MS Dynamics CRM, ServiceNow®, SugarCRM®, and any SQL-based data source).

End of Support:

Please be informed that as of December 31, 2024, our support on versions 5.2.x, 5.3.x, and 6.x.x will have ended, and the last day to order support on the same will be 31st of December. 

On 31st December 2025, 2Ring will stop developing, testing, and maintaining these versions.

Upgrade Path

To minimize any potential downtime, a new set of virtual machines will need to be provided and after the cutover, your current virtual machines should be decommissioned.
